MICROCARE MEDICAL® LAUNCHES DURAGLIDE® DRY LUBRICANT AT MED-TECH INNOVATION Stand 101

MicroCare Medical®, a supplier of advanced cleaners, carrier additives, coatings and lubricants, has announced the launch of the Duraglide® family of dry lubricants that will be featured at their stand 101 during Med-Tech Innovation from 2-3 April, the only 100 percent dedicated medical device manufacturing trade show in the UK. With proprietary ‘microdispersion’ polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) technology that is ISO 10993 certified, Duraglide dry lubricants deposit a thin, smooth lubricant film over any surface. These lubricants are applied onto devices or mechanical assemblies that are used in the operating room and function outside of the body. This includes catheters, cutting tools, staplers, hypotubes, and other ‘surface to surface’ complex assemblies. The ISO 10993 certification gives the engineer or manufacturer who is working to get their new device to market as quickly as possible, the confidence to specify the Duraglide brand coating because they know it will pass the necessary biocompatibility testing. “Many medical devices would not be commercially viable without this coating,” said Jay Tourigny, senior vice president for MicroCare Medical. “With our lubricant, the feel of the device delivers a silky, almost effortless actuation that cannot be obtained any other way.”

Consistency in the coating is important. Coatings with many micropowders require constant agitation and often produce inconsistent, streaky coatings. Duraglide dry lubricant microdispersions actually suspend the PTFE particle in unique carrier agents, creating a better, consistent coating and smoother movements.

“Our dry film lubricants give coverage that is completely uniform,” said Tom Tattersall, chief operating officer of MicroCare Medical. “This reduces the force needed to actuate, or cycle, the device by 25 to 30 percent.”

Other benefits of using Duraglide dry lubricants include nonflammable handling, storage and use, excellent materials compatibility, and excellent environmental properties.

Duraglide dry lubricants are custom blended for dip, spray and aerosol applications. They are available through the MicroCare Medical website at www.microcaremedical.com.
