Optimising e-Commerce through Technology

According to several researchers, the first recorded online transaction was made in 1972 when students from Stanford University, US, sold some marijuana to students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology using an Arpanet account (1). However, the explosion of e-commerce business on the internet is usually associated with the mid 1990s, when companies such as Amazon and eBay launched their user-friendly online shopping platforms. The technology that powered these e-commerce trailblazers was developed to support relatively simple product transactions in which the desired products could be placed in a virtual shopping cart and then purchased with a credit card.
